The Reason You're Here
"You know how every once in a while you do something and the little voice inside says, 'There. That's it. That's why you're here...' and you get a warm glow in your heart because you know it's true? Do more of that." - Jacob Nordby
I remember sitting at my desk at my 9-5, feeling stuck.
I didn't feel like my job was meaningful. I felt sapped of my energy and strength. I was tired and broken. And I wanted more out of life.
I wanted to live a life on fire. A life full of meaning and hope and light. I wanted to use my talents for good... to love on and serve others who needed the gifts I had.
So when my contract ended, I quit.
I had felt the warm glow Jacob Nordby is talking about. I felt it when I showed up on shoot day and turned on my camera. I felt it when I found the perfect piece of music that carried the right emotion. I felt it when I premiered the finished film to my client and saw tears in their eyes as they whispered, "I can't believe it's so true to my heart..."
I believe in my soul that we must honor that glow.
We must invite it into our life in some way, shape, or form. It doesn't mean we have to quit our jobs. It's a personal call that needs to be answered.
Because there are people out there who need what we have. There are millions of little gaps that only we can fill. And when we fill a gap, when we step in and allow our gifts to be perfectly used even in the smallest way, we fill others with light and the light fills us too.
When you find that glow, or remember it, or allow yourself to feel it again for the first time in a long time... let yourself say,
There. That's it. That's why I'm here.
And let it in.
